Maria has worked for Desert Doula Birth and
Postpartum Services both as a doula and as the President of their
Board of Directors. She has worked as a doula at Flagstaff Medical
Center in Flagstaff and the Birth and Women's Health Center, Tucson
Medical Center, University Medical Center, Northwest Hospital and St.
Joseph's Hospital in Tucson. Her experiences have ranged from working
with single teenagers who only spoke Spanish to women with huge
networks of support and rooms full of loving family members.
Her awe for the miracle of pregnancy and birth never ceases and is
always honored when she is asked to be part of a birth as a doula. She
regards birth, this culmination of pregnancy and the beginning of
motherhood as one of the most challenging yet fulfilling moments in a
woman's life. Maria's experience as a doula ranges from supporting
women who choose to have a natural birth with no medication to births
with many and necessary medical interventions
